A fresh-looking candle with a stale quote
Use information freshness as an independent gate rather than treating a chart update as executable liquidity.
Illustrative simulation · No historical performance claim01. Read the information available.
The chart has produced a completed qualifying candle, but the separate executable quote feed last updated eight seconds ago. The paper profile permits quote age no greater than two seconds at submission. This age limit is an invented policy for the exercise, not a claim about a universal latency standard.
02. Apply the documented plan.
Require every gate to pass. A missing or stale executable quote blocks new exposure even if the chart updates normally. Restore and verify fresh quotes, confirm the setup has not expired, and recompute size if entry conditions changed. Never silently substitute the chart close for a missing executable ask.
Freshness gate blocks the intention
The old quote is six seconds beyond the policy maximum. No order is authorized at the cutoff and no trading P&L is booked. The later synthetic path fluctuates; neither its initial rise nor subsequent decline establishes whether a stale-feed order would have filled. Recovery requires a new valid quote timestamp and all other gates, not just the return of an internet icon.

| Component | Calculation or state |
|---|---|
| Maximum quote age | 2 seconds |
| Observed age | 8 seconds |
| Excess age | 6 seconds |
| Authorized state | Blocked pending verification |
Use the case facts and their units. Chart movement alone does not prove execution or account cash flows.
What this case teaches
Freshness, delivery, chart computation and broker execution are different layers. Record the failed input and its recovery evidence so a data failure is not mistaken for hesitation or a strategy loss.
