Before the number hits the screen
Prepare for gold trading around CPI, payrolls and central bank announcements by separating event awareness from execution decisions.
The release is not the whole event
A scheduled announcement changes information, but its trading impact also depends on expectations, positioning and liquidity. The headline may conflict with revisions or other components. The first price move can reverse as participants interpret details. Knowing the release time is necessary preparation; it does not establish a directional edge.
Check the authoritative schedule
Use the releasing institution’s calendar and verify its timezone. US daylight-saving changes can shift the relationship between release times and Dubai time. The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes CPI and employment schedules; the Federal Reserve publishes its FOMC calendar. Third-party calendars are useful references, but an incorrect timezone can invalidate an otherwise careful plan.
Plan for execution deterioration
Quoted spreads can widen, displayed liquidity can change and orders can fill away from intended prices. A stop close to the entry may be particularly vulnerable to brief volatility. Decide whether your method has been evaluated under comparable conditions. If it has not, observing the event without opening a position can produce useful information without assuming that fast movement creates a tradeable advantage.
Define the conditions for re-entry
After a release, wait for the conditions specified by your method rather than an arbitrary feeling that the market has calmed down. These may include an acceptable spread, a new structural reference and a stop that fits the risk budget. Record actual fills and costs in the journal. Event trading should be assessed using executable outcomes; an attractive candle on a historical chart is not proof that the same entry could have been obtained live.
